We at Jessamine Humane Society are reeling from the changes happening in the world outside, as we know everyone is. We are working to continue to provide services where we can, including making sure that you have good and practical information about how this virus may impact you and your family, including its animal members. We’ll be updating this page as frequently as warranted.
If we can’t do this safely, we can’t do it at all – for the sake of the animals who need us here to care for them for however long this thing lasts. We will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so. Our door will be closed to the public, effective immediately. This decision is not made lightly. All of our upcoming clinics have been canceled, as well. We will continue to take in applications and look for the best homes for each animal.
Please stay safe!
Can My Pet Get Covid-19?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Organization for Animal Health have issued advisories saying there is no evidence at this time that companion animals can spread the COVID-19 virus.
The WSAVA (World Small Animal Veterinary Association) Global Veterinary Community—an association representing more than 200,000 veterinarians—also states that there is no evidence that companion animals can be infected. The association does, however, caution that this is a rapidly evolving situation and updates will be provided as they are received. People confirmed to have COVID-19 should avoid contact with other people as well as pets.
